A VERY POPULAR GUIDED WALK

Join the Jurassic Coast Trust’s expert Ambassadors for leisurely, family-friendly lunchtime walks to the Spyway Dinosaur Footprints, just outside Worth Matravers in Purbeck.

Meeting at the famous Square & Compass pub in Worth Matravers, join us for a relaxing stroll to this spectacular dinosaur footprints site, and walk where once roamed giant sauropods.

Walks begin at 10am or 12pm and are completed in 2 hours, and are led by one of our experienced and knowledgeable local Ambassadors.

The walks are gentle and suitable for all ages, however there are some undulating areas over some uneven quarry workings along with a grassed section and no rest areas, so may not be suitable for all. Please make your own assessment whether everyone in your party can make the walk and whether you want to take any buggies with you.

Well-behaved dogs are also welcome. Please note there maybe some roaming stock animals along the walk, so dogs should be on a leash.

Spyway’s footprints date to the late Jurassic period, 145 million years ago. There are more than 100 fossilised tracks preserved in the quarry site, which can be easily accessed from the nearby Priest’s Way walking trail. The footprints were made by giant sauropod dinosaurs, most likely brachiosaurs.

The footprints site at the quarry is owned and managed by the National Trust.
